How long does composite decking last?

Oakio composite decking is built for long-term performance. We offer up to a 15-year warranty for traditional WPC decking and 25 years for capped (co-extrusion) decking. With proper installation and routine cleaning, it can last even longer.

How do I install composite decking?

Please follow our WPC Decking Installation Guide for step-by-step instructions on substructure, spacing, clips, and fasteners to ensure a safe and long-lasting installation.

What is the difference between capped and uncapped decking?

Uncapped decking is first-generation WPC and offers a lower initial cost. Capped decking features a protective outer layer that provides better resistance to stains, scratches, fading, moisture, and mold, along with a longer warranty.

How slippery is composite decking when wet?

Oakio decking features an anti-slip surface with textured grooves for improved traction. It offers better slip resistance than traditional timber, although extra caution is still recommended in wet or icy conditions.

How far apart should the supporting joists be?

Recommended joist spacing depends on the decking profile:Round hollow: 300 mm; Square hollow: 350 mm; Solid decking: 400 mm. Always follow our installation guide for best results.

How do I choose between hollow and solid decking?

Hollow decking is ideal for residential projects such as patios, balconies, and gardens. Solid decking offers higher load capacity, making it better suited for commercial and public spaces with heavier foot traffic.

Will composite decking fade over time?

Like all outdoor materials, composite decking will experience slight colour stabilization during the first few months of outdoor exposure. Oakio’s capped decking offers excellent UV resistance, minimizing long-term fading.

Will there be colour differences between decking boards?

Minor colour variations may occur because our decking contains recycled wood fibers and is manufactured in batches. For the best appearance, we recommend ordering all boards at the same time and in the same length whenever possible.

How do I cut composite decking?

Composite decking can be cut, drilled, and fastened using standard woodworking tools, including circular, table, and miter saws. Carbide-tipped blades are recommended for clean, accurate cuts.

What colours are available?

Oakio offers four decking collections, each with its own colour range and surface finish. Visit the product pages to explore available colours, or request samples for a more accurate representation.

Is composite decking maintenance-free?

Composite decking requires far less maintenance than wood but is not completely maintenance-free. Regular sweeping and occasional cleaning with water and mild soap are all that’s needed to keep it looking its best.

What cleaning products can I use?

Clean your decking with water and a mild household soap or dishwashing liquid. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the surface.

Can composite decking be polished?

No. Composite decking is designed with a durable finished surface and does not require polishing. Simply clean it regularly with water and a soft brush to maintain its appearance.

Is the decking board reversible?

Yes, but we recommend installing the grooved side facing up. This provides better slip resistance and helps reduce the visibility of stains and watermarks.

What lengths are available?

Standard decking lengths are 2.2 m, 2.8 m, and 3.6 m. Custom lengths are also available for project orders, subject to production and shipping requirements.

How do I choose decking clips?

Oakio offers plastic, 304 stainless steel, and aluminum clips. Plastic clips are the most economical, while stainless steel and aluminum provide greater durability. Clip selection also determines board spacing.

What is the fire rating of Oakio decking?

Our fire-resistant decking can achieve Bfl-s1 under European fire standards. Standard products typically meet Class C or Class D, depending on the formulation.

How much does composite decking cost compared with wood?

Composite decking is competitively priced with quality timber. Although the initial investment may be higher, its low maintenance requirements help reduce long-term ownership costs.

What can I do with leftover decking boards?

Leftover boards can be repurposed into planters, benches, garden paths, shelves, or other outdoor DIY projects. Composite decking is easy to cut and highly resistant to moisture and decay.

How much decking fits in a 20-foot container?

Capacity depends on the decking profile and packaging. As a reference, a 20-foot container typically holds approximately 700–800 m² of decking.
